The design for the Robotic Minion Starter Kit enclosure is just about done. Here is a picture diary showing how the cases will go together. The screen hole will be cut to a closer tolerance, we will add a speaker grill and the shape of the gear knob is going to change a little. The screen hole is cut to closer tolerance than the photos, there are some cosmetic changes to the case and the gear knob is different than the photos. Click photos for a closeup.
Not Pictured: Glue the top and the bottom of the knob (Gears) together. The bottom has the cutout for sliding over the rotary encoder. Elmer’s glue or any wood glue works fine.

- Closeup of electronics
- Closeup of hardware with micrometer for scale
- Closeup of laser cut panel
- Punch out the enclosure parts if needed.
- Each side has a letter on a tab that matches up with the bottom. Line up the left and right sides.
- Line up the top and bottom. Set aside the top, bottom, left and right panels but remember where they go.
- Place the circuit board on the bottom over the holes
- Drop the 3 short screws into the holes
- Carefully tilt the board up and let the screws fall through
- Bottom view with the screws poking out
- Gently finger tighten the bolts
- put the left and right sides face down on the table and drop the 4 nuts in the t-slots
- put a bit of tape on each nut to hold it during assembly
- Put all 4 sides into the correct slots
- The bottom tabs double as feet. Propping the box up on something lets them come all the way out. Put in the long screws but only just start them into the nuts. One turn at most.
- Plug the screen into the main board before you put the top on. Alternatively you can lay it in the lid, and tape it in place with a little masking tape. It’s tricky to line up the pins that way, but the screen will be in the perfect place.
- test fit the knob gear. It should be snug, but don’t be too rough. You don’t want to break the rotary encoder or the board. It has to both turn and click once you get the lid on.
- Put the lid on. If it’s hard, make sure all the bolts are loose.
- Check the alignment of the screen. You may have to loosen and re-tighten the bolts on the bottom to get it strait. thread lock on the bottom bolts is recommended once you have it aligned.
- Tighten the bolts with an Allen wrench or pliers. They need to be tight enough so the top and bottom are held on by the compression.
- Your Robotic Minion Starter Kit is now ready to go.
